It's been a hard morning

Sinterklaas came! Eliot and Miles got up on their own earlier than normal and opened his gifts. He brought the boys some hand puppets of himself, his witte paard (white horse) and two Zwarte Piets (helpers). We sang Sinterklaas Kapoentje to thank him for the gifts.

Today was a typical Dutch winter day - dark, cold, rainy and windy. No surprise that I took Eliot to school by bus. Even though we got up early, we still managed to be running out the door. I checked my phone clock in the elevator - 8:03 and the bus leaves at 8:01. I didn't think it was that late yet, but we had to hurry. I picked up Eliot and we ran with our umbrella fighting the rain and wind. I got to the bus station, and couldn't figure out which platform out of the 8 that I needed. It was unbelievably crowded. Gina said because of the rain - few people bike on days like this.

Finally, I realized that our bus to Delft Tanthof was a little late and not yet at the station. It came and we got on. A gentleman (actually a guy that works at our bank at de Hoven Passage) handed me one of my black leather gloves that I apparently had dropped. Eliot and I sat down and sure enough the other glove was missing. In all of the umbrella blowing and running around platforms H and J, they must have fallen out of my pockets. I did a quick check for the other glove out the door of the bus before we took off - no sign of it. We arrived at the bus stop and started our 7-minute walk to the school. As our umbrella got turned inside out for the third time that morning, Eliot said "it has been a hard morning. It rained on us, it's windy and you lost your glove." We got to school at 8:15 - the first ones in the class. I walked back to the bus with my hood up, giving up on the umbrella. I had to wait 20-25 minutes for the bus that's supposed to come every 15 minutes. It was so crowded that I had to stand on the way back. At the station, I looked around for my glove and retraced my steps back home. I think I finally walked in the door at 8:50, nearly an hour after leaving for school: cold, wet, and annoyed for losing one of my nice leather gloves.
