Looking for the puppeteers, we found a lovely (not from Jim's perspective) small amusement park in the gardens. Apparently, this and other parks in the city are known for these fantastic puppet shows. Jim and I decided the puppet show must be on holiday like the rest of Paris. The tourist areas were open for business, but it was pretty clear that many of the city's residents were gone. At least every other shop window had a handwritten note - closed until August 21 or 28. This included all kinds of shops - travel agencies, hair salons, kitchen stores, markets. A sight you wouldn't see very many places in the US - a business shutting down for 2-4 weeks for vacation. Unheard of, but seems like a good idea to me!

The boys had a great time riding the cars on a roller-coaster-like track. The park had a water log ride (there were even crazy riders on this cold and wet day), big-kid rides that twirled around, carnival games, merry-go-round, and a huge ferris wheel. I enjoyed the caricatures in the presidential toss game! Eliot chose to ride the race cars that went up and down and made a hairpin turn. He said he "kept sliding along the seat in the turns." Since Miles was too young for this ride, Miles got to ride the boat ride by himself (that went over well with Eliot, as you could imagine). Jim and I really wanted to check out the view from the Ferris Wheel, but we couldn't get Eliot to agree to it. So it was time to get some lunch and think about our trek home. Of course, it started pouring again - an outright downpour just as we left the park.
