Jardin des Tuileries - these gardens used to belong to the Palais des Tuileries, which was razed to the ground during the Paris Commune of 1871. The gardens were laid out in the 17th century. The kids enjoyed the modern sculptures in this veggie garden, though there were plenty of the traditional variety, as well. Today, the garden ends are bounded by The Louvre and the Place de la Concorde. With all this around, Eliot wanted to go back and see the tree that had uprooted. Miles also just loved simply splashing and picking up rocks. The Obelisk in Place de la Concorde is 3200 years old - a present from the viceroy of Egypt in the 1800s. This is the square where Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and 1300 other victims were beheaded in 1793-94.
