Gina and Ap invited us to join them and their two boys - Martijn and Merrick - on a trip to the beach. This time we went via car to 's Gravenzande, which has a great family beach. We left about 9:30 from Delft to try and miss some of the traffic going to the beach. Once parked, you have to walk up and over the dune to get to the beach. When we arrived about 10:15, there were a few bikes and lots of people were already on the beach. We picked a spot by the red pail sign (they have sign posts like at a parking garage to tell you where are on the beach). You can rent umbrellas at the beach, so we got two to have a little shade. It was warm but the breeze and cold water of the sea kept us cool enough. The winds were out of the east which is unusual for here, so they were not allowing floaties in the water. It also meant the waves were "big" for the North Sea.

To the South , you could see the port and container cranes at Hoek van Holland. In the foreground is a tractor that was used to put boat onto the water. Further out, there were large ships heading to the big shipping canal and toward the port at Rotterdam.
