Travel Day

The apartment buzzer rang at 6:30 am, 30 minutes earlier than we expected. The taxi driver had checked the traffic and decided to come early since there were delays. Of course, it was raining again. I threw on the boys clothes and Jim started shuttling down the bags. Before 7 am, we were on our way to Schiphol. Things were okay until around Leiden where the traffic slowed and then came to a complete stop. We were at a dead stop for 20 minutes; Jim and I were getting quite nervous. Finally, we saw some cars going the other direction on the A4, and then we started to move slowly at first. Then the traffic sped up and our driver drove like Michael Andretti (or Schumaker, depending on your racing persuasion) to make sure we made it to the airport in time.

We ended up just fine - with over 2 hours to get checked in. No problems. The driver even helped us get our bags to the check-in line. After getting rid of our checked luggage, we loaded up our stuff to move into the airport. We were a sight: 2 roller carryons, computer bag, backpack, my bag, 2 toy bags, a stroller, and two large carseats. At breakfast, Miles spilled a bunch of chocolate milk on his shirt - nice. We moved toward the gate and security. Eliot walked the floor path while we pulled out our liquids and dumped our water. Eliot and Miles played at the gate; we enjoyed seeing the airport activities at this cool double-decker jetway system. We boarded for our 10:50 flight, bound for Chicago.
