Back to school today. It was a miserable day - like those you would expect in the winter in Northern Europe. Rainy, windy, cold. Miles stayed home with Jim, and I took Eliot to school by bus. Eliot and I didn't bother for long with the umbrella, which kept getting blown inside out. We got to school pretty early., The school was so changed from the festive mode of Tuesday. All of the banners, burlap sacks, and ceiling decorations for Sinterklaas were gone. The classroom bulletin boards were empty. The kids pictures were still up, but it seemed lonely somehow. On the theme table in Eliot's classroom, sat an old fashioned 4-legged metal tree stand. Time for a new theme - Christmas.

After saying goodbye to Eliot, I started back to the busstop. I hit the main boulevard just as a bus took off. On these wet days, the buses really fill up. I got back to the house right before nine. I noticed that the schedule said bus 130, but the normal bus 64 was the one running.

Miles fell asleep late in the morning, so I headed to pick Eliot up by myself on the bus. It was still incredibly windy and raining. Eliot had a nice day at school, coloring and playing in the gym. We said goodbye to Lucien, since we won's see him again before our holiday back to the US. It made me sad to think we'd be gone for 4 weeks. We waited at the bus; another rider told me that they are cancelling bus 64 as of Sunday. I couldn't believe it. Bus 130 will only run in the morning (good for school) and in the late afternoon (not so good).

When we got home, Eliot told me he had put is socks on upside down (heels on top). We had lunch and I tried to figure out the new bus schedule. It's not great, but we won't have to deal with it for very long before we move home.

The weather cleared slightly around 3, so we headed to the bank and bakery and to get Jim a birthday present from the boys. We stopped at the bagel shop, just as it started pouring again. We started out the door, but turned back around since we didn't have any raincoats and an umbrella would not do it. After coffee and hot chocolate, we hit the toy store (for Daddy's gift, of course) and headed for home.
