We attended our first play group with the English-speaking international playgroup here in Delft. It consists of 10-15 families who want their children to speak English as well as Dutch. Most of the families have one American and one Dutch parent; many seem to be here for the long haul. It's great to have a connection to other moms and kids. They seem to be a good support group for each other; Deborah and Gina have been a great help to me so far!

We met at the Beestenmarkt (square with a statue of a cow) to blow bubbles and march. I believe it used to be the old livestock market. It's amazing how much the kids look alike! Because it was cold, we went to a cafe for koffie, tortes and pannekucken. Afterwards, Eliot, Miles and I went on our shopping rounds to the veggie and fruit market, the cheese store, and to the bank. Sidebar: Deborah said "[Eliot's favorite] cheese (Boer Bel Stolwj) must be short for Boeren (farmer's) Belegen (slightly aged) Stolwijker (region). And yes, the Dutch do like their black licorice. I used to try to give some away in the US as gifts...they all got chucked in the waste basket." After lunch, we went to the big supermarket C1000 [say thousand]. Eliot rode his new bike there and I pushed Miles in the stroller. I can't wait until we get my bike setup. Hopefully, I'll be able to ride with 2 passengers and groceries.
