Today was Eliot's 4th birthday. Jim, following our weekend ritual, made panckaes for the family. Then Eliot, Jim and Miles (on the back) went on a big bike ride around the train station. Finally - it was time to take a train ride! We got to ride on a double decker blue and yellow train - the Sneltrein (fast train) - to visit the Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam zoo). According to Eliot, the "double deckers go really fast." He was right and we got there in about 10 minutes.

Eliot later told Aunt Julie that "you can either take the train or a car to get around Europe, but today we took the train from Delft to Rotterdam [I think he thought we went to a different country.]"
At the zoo, we saw lots of animals. The animals had large areas with lots of shade and water features everywhere. Miles really liked the butterfly house. He kept pointing to them and then would hold his hands out to see if they would land on him. He also kept waving to all the animals through the glass. They had our favorites: lions, tigers, elephants, and zebras. The zoo had a great aquarium with fish tanks, a shark tunnel, and sea turtles. Eliot and Miles check out the large tortoises. The funniest was the Prairiehondjes exhibit near the bison. And you thought prairie dogs were vermon!!
