In the afternoon, Jim joined us for an outing to Rotterdam. We thought dad would enjoy the Spido harbor tour, so that's where we headed first. We did this same 1.25-hour trip with John and Mary and learned a lot (not yet blogged from their trip). The weather was great - almost hot (80-85 degrees). This time we were on a smaller boat (80s dinner boat), which didn't have an outside upper deck.

The Rotterdam port is one of the largest in the world. It is a huge container port and is the world's largest oil port - with multiple refineries and chemical plants. Our tour only took us 8 km out of Rotterdam toward the sea. When we turned down one of the port channels, there was still 25 km to travel to the open North Sea at Hoek van Holland.

We saw lots of cool sites along the way:
Erasmusbrug
Euromast and buildings along the Maas River
Large container ship in floating dock for maintenance
Interesting checkered building with cantelever (they like this architectural feature in Rotterdam)
A dredger barge pumping up sand and water
