Sunset from our hotel room in Maastrict
After getting Jim, we headed down toward Maastricht. We thought we might eat in Nijmegen, but decided to head on to Venlo. Miles go by very quickly when they are actually kilometers. Somehow, we missed a turn and ended up 20 km beyond our dinner destination. We stopped at a Chinese restaurant in the next town once we realized we had passed it. Doesn't it seem that you can find a Chinese restaurant in any town around the world? This one had a dinner buffet similar to a mongolian BBQ with raw meat and veggies to be taken to a chef at a wok stove. You choose your sauce. They also had Japanese food plus a few Dutch staples - bitterballen and fries. It was kind of a strange setup, but it was tasty and filling.
The scenery changes drastically as you head into Limburg (the southern most province in Holland). Hills begin to develop, and although the land is still used mainly for farming in between the cities, you see a rolling landscape. There weren't as many greenhouses as we have becomed accustomed to seeing and even fewer canals and windmills. Along the way, we saw fields of peas or beans, asparagus, corn, broccoli, wheat, and vines - maybe cucumber? We arrived in Maastrict to the quaint Hotel de Poshoorn at 9:30 and climbed >45 steep stairs to our hotel room on the top floor.
