Today we took the tram (#1) to the Scheviningen [s'Chay-fuh-ninger] - the beach. Being able to pronounce this city (now part of Den Haag) is a true test of speaking Dutch; it was a passcode for the resistance fighters in WWII. The German soldiers were not able to pronounce it correctly. Neither can we!!

We went to the beach with Deborah, Laurents, Timo and Astrid. Eliot and Miles both had a great time. Eliot loved running into the waves and the cold water and then falling into the sand. Miles liked the sand. Being early in the season, the North Sea is still quite cold. It does warm up in the summer. The beach was quite crowded since it was really the first hot weekend of the year. By the time we were ready to leave, the kids were covered in sand and quite exhausted (so were the adults!). We saw a huge boat coming into the harbor as we walked back to the tram stop. Laurents thought is was a fishing boat, because this harbor is only for fishing, not containers.

After showers and rest, Laurents and family came over to watch Holland play in their first World Kup match. They won. Hup Holland Hup! We had a beer taste test of Belgian beers and ate pizza after the game. It was a great day - long but fun. You should see the commercials here playing up the Dutch fans and their orange. They are great.
