After our canal tour, we walked over to the Burcht. This was a medevial fortress from 1100-1200, built on top of a hill. It has been heavily restored. The Burcht is hidden in the middle of the city, with a very steep climb to get up to the circular structure. The view from the top of the wall was great, including Leiden's two large Gothic churches Hooglandsekerk and Pieterskerk. Miles continues his nap started on the boat. Julie, Jim and Eliot pose on a nicely carved wooden bench.
