The pedestrian street outside our hotel was filled with shops, people and street performers at night. We were in a perfect location for getting anywhere in central Barcelona. The street was busy day and night. This picture was taken at 9:00 pm - when most people head off to eat dinner in Spain. Jim and I both got to read a book and just relax during our vacation.
After getting settled in, we asked the front desk for a lunch recommendation. They suggested the Four Cats, which was just a block away. The line looked long, so we continued around the corner and stopped at a typical Catalan restaurant. Most Barcelona retaurants serve a set 3-course menu for lunch. You choose 2 items across their daily menu and then a dessert. They didn't have an English menu and the staff didn't speak English, so we ordered what we thought sounded good. Jim ordered escallop something - thinking it was scallops - he got beef cutlet. I ordered fish - thinking it would be a baked fish - I got two whole fried fish, heads and all. Not my favorite. It was a rude awakening from Holland - being some place where English is not so pervasive. It might make for interesting meals that's for sure.
