This week, the class began studying the sea, visbak (aquarium), and fish. From what I understand, the school philosophy is to teach around a theme that the children are interested in. And who doesn't like fish?! They'll learn words, read books, make pictures, do activities, and talk about things related to fish and water. This morning when I dropped Eliot off, there was sand on the display table with seashells, books about the beach on the bookstand, and an empty aquarium. A big pastel of rich blue was taped on the chalkboard.

On our way to pick up Eliot, it started pouring right as we came out of the train tunnel. I stopped under a tree to put Miles into his raincoat. The downpour didn't last long, and we made it to Eliot's school fairly dry. When we arrived, we saw that the children had each made a beautiful fish for the visbak drawing. Eliot's fish is the striped one on the bottom, missing its fins. Eliot said "I just forgot to put fins on it." It's a wonderful collaborative piece of work. Eliot really wanted to show me the design that he made with triangle blocks in the white hexagon shape.
We put on the rain gear and loaded up on the bike for our journey home. Riding home from school, Eliot told me about a singing performance he heard. I asked if it was like Jammy Man or more like Fancy singing. He said it was more like Jammy Man with instruments. Instead of recess, they went to some kind of performance at the school's stage with children and adults. He said he also enjoyed playing with the Lego raised metro system again.
