Antone and Helene Kroller-Muller had a passionate desire to leave a grand bequest to the nation, a mixture of nature and culture which would, she felt, "be an important lesson when showing the inherentrefinement of a merchant's family living at the beginning of the century." She collected the art, and he the land.
The St. Hubert hunting lodge is the former country resident of the Kroller-Mullers. It was designed by the famous Dutch architect Berlage and built 1914-1920.
