Black spidermans

Miles started being interested in his potty chair and then his potty seat at the end of the month. So, we pulled out the undies. He especially likes looking like his brother in their black spidey undies. Though he's not yet potty trained, we may be on our way.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day in Boulder always involves the Bolder Boulder - a 10K race that this attracted over 50,000 runners and walkers. This year, Janet ran it 2x, Jim ran it, and Aunt Marty, mom, and Dennis walked the course. Miles and Eliot and I biked down to see the walkers. We missed Jim by 3 minutes, but saw our neighbors Nicola and Mason running by.

A big ceremony follows the citizens race in Folsom Stadium. Parachuters land in the stadium with the flags of each of the armed forces and culminating with the American flag being flown into the stadium by a skydiver. Miles and I biked to the top of 19th and watched the parachuters and the jet flyover. One of the racers gave Miles his US flag. Pretty cool stuff. After the ceremony, the professional women and men run the 10K. That is amazing to watch - this year on TV for us. The Wheelers and Haylseys came over after the race for a low-key barbeque.

Eliot's birthday celebration - first one

We celebrated Eliot's birthday with the Wheeless' today, since Grammy and Pop will return home and Aunt Julie will be out of town for his party. Eliot loved the batwing that Grammy&Pop gave him (it took us 5 or 6 hours to put together), as well as the airport tower Aunt Julie gave him. Eliot put together his picnic place setting from his new set; then Miles had to do the same. We had angel food cake with aquamarine glaze (Eliot picked the color) and strawberries.

Today was our 7th wedding anniversary.

Wedding of Teresa and Diogo

My cousin Teresa married Diogo up at the Boettcher Mansion on Lookout Mountain in Golden, CO this Memorial Day weekend. It was a lovely, sweet ceremony. It was a great opportunity to get a new outfit and to have a fancy evening out. Our favorite babysitter Maura took care of the boys.

While Jim took his second trip to Australia, I decided to design our front landscaping. We had not done anything in the front and west side, except take out junipers since we moved in 3 years ago. Our friend Tom helped me set some of the stones to finish the hardscaping. While Eliot was at school, Miles and I went to the nursery to buy the plants for the front yard. We filled the entire bed of the pickup truck, plus had a few plants inside the cab.

I had a lot of planting to do over the next week or so. Dad helped me plant some and I continued planting through Memorial Day weekend and into the next week to get everything planted. These three pictures show the finished product. It will be fun to see how it all looks next year.

Meri, Debbie, and I took the kids hiking up the McClintock trail at Chautaquah. It is a great 2-2.5-mile hike with lots of shade and a nice climb. We enjoyed looking for pine seeds in pine cones and watching for butterflies.

Mother's Day

Jim left for a 2-week business trip to Australia yesterday, so I asked Julie to do something with me for mother's day. She watched the boys, while I got a wonderful pedicure. Then we did a little shopping for an outfit for me for our cousin's wedding. Julie treated me to a nice dinner at Ted's Montana Grill. The boys got a bath and we headed home for the night.

Mayfaire at school

To celebrate spring, BWK holds an annual Mayfaire. We all bring flowers to make beautiful crowns for the kids. The Waldorf teachers showed us how the maypole is to be woven into a colorful braid.

Miles didn't much care for the singing and dancing, so he found the sandbox and tools to keep him busy! After all the other classes went, it was the Cherry Blossoms turn at the maypole. Eliot seemed to enjoy it, but was pretty funny trying to turn under his ribbon.

Today was a busy day with soccer in the morning, then mayfaire, followed immediately by Maya's 5th birthday party. I left the boys at the party to drive back to Boulder to pick Jim up with his bags. We stopped back in Broomfield to fetch the boys. Eliot apparently ate 4 red velvet cupcakes at the beach party! We all drove Jim to the airport to catch his plane to LA and then Brisbane, Australia.

Seedlings

Needless to say, I have spent a lot of time preparing my garden for this year. Since the entire area was new, I had to work the hard soil; add peat moss, compost and vemiculite to each plot; plus remove the rocks. Inside, I started 12 different peppers from seeds plus 4 types of basil, broccoli, marjoram, chives, cutting celery, and cilantro. The peppers have to be started inside because our growing season is just too short between last and first freezes.
3/19 seedlings
3/31 seedlings and transplants
4/18 transplants
5/5 transplants

I planted them in the garden mid-May.

Buttercup

Today, Buttercup went to live with our next-door neighbors. We found out that Miles is allergic to both cat and dog dander. Since those allergies seem to be complicating his asthma, we realized we had to find a new home for our kitty. The great news is that she is just next door so we can see her, but Miles doesn't have to live with the cat allergens. It took a few weeks to learn to go next door rather than our house for food and nighttime - but she has now figured it out!

Bowling at the CU lanes

Megan and I took the boys bowling at the CU lanes. The boys preferred to use the ramp to launch their ball. Miles loved just being on the slippery wood floor. Little bowling shoes are so cute! Even though the gutter guards were up, neither Megan nor I were able to break 100.

May Day

For as many years as I can remember, a cone of lilacs appeared on our gate to celebrate May Day anonomously. I love that!
